How To Keep Things Tidy With Small Kids

How To Keep Things Tidy With Small Kids

Keeping a home organized with small kids can be a challenge for so many reasons.

Where there are kids there are toys, books, games, puzzles, and just lots of stuff!

First off let me say I feel your pain.  I know what it's like to have small kids, lots of kid stuff, and being exhausted.  Keeping the house tidy can feel impossible in this situation.  Like I said, I know, and I can sympathize.  So no judgement here.  But if having toys scattered all over is adding to your stress, let me pass on to you something that helped me immensely.

Get a large catch all basket.

I got asked a million times when I was organizing for families, "What do I do with all those toys scattered around at the end of the day???"
I get it, at the end of a long day you are tired, your kids are tired, and it just might not be reasonable to have the kid stuff put away every night. So here’s what I did and highly recommend.
Get yourself a large basket. We called ours “the basket on the stairs”, because it was on the landing of our stairs. Toys all belonged upstairs but no one wanted to take them there at night. So we literally threw them all into the basket before bedtime.
Get your kids involved.  Sometimes mine even enjoyed throwing them in there.
The next day it was someone’s turn to unload the basket and put everything away in their real places. Then the process starts over.
We did this for YEARS! And I actually still have a basket on the stairs but it is much smaller. It now fills with books, makeup, jewelry, nerf bullets and hair clips.
Your basket can go wherever it works best for your family. And if you are looking to get your own “basket on the stairs” check out our XL Water Hyacinth basket!
Happy organizing!
