What Not To Do When Organizing a Pantry

Organized baskets in a pantry

This is not something that most home organizers will tell you. In fact most say the exact opposite.

You’ll read blog after blog telling you to take everything out of its original packaging and put into containers. But if you want a pantry that is organized and more importantly, easy to maintain, then my advice is this:

DO NOT DECANT YOUR PANTRY ITEMS

You heard me right.  There is one reason others will say to do it and one reason only. Aesthetics. Sure it can look amazing. I get it. I get why they say it.
Here’s why I disagree. I only give real world organizing advice. And taking everything out of the original packaging and putting the items into a new container is time consuming and hard to keep up with. I had a few clients that went against my sound advice and wanted to put everything into clear containers. So I did it for them. Guess now many kept up with the system? None. Those pretty clear containers ended up empty and taking up room on the shelves.
So save yourself the headache. You can accomplish the same look with bins and baskets. No need to take the cookies out of the package and put them into the clear container. Just put the cookie package in a basket with other cookie packages. Don’t take the penne pasta out of the box, put the box in a basket with other boxes of pasta.
We’ve got amazing baskets for your pantry. My personal favorites for the pantry are the large and small Farmers Market Baskets. Check them out.  If you need a complete system for your pantry we have the solution for that.  Our Pantry packs come in 3 sizes: Basics, Small & Large.
Happy organizing!
