Kitchen Organizing Packs Tutorial

Organizing doesn't have to give you a headache! Oba is here to help. Today we're here to show you what to do when it comes to organizing your fridge.  Don't forget to start with the Basics of Organizing Video tutorial!

We are going to get into the nitty gritty of organizing your kitchen!  Think drawers, that terrible junk drawer and the clutter under your sink.  The room that tends to get the most use, so let’s get it organized.

A well organized kitchen is a must.  And because we are Oba, we will be organizing a real kitchen, with real stuff.  We’ve got a bunch of items that maybe aren't the prettiest and a lot of mismatched stuff, but it’s ours and we love it, so we are going to organize it!

As you’ll recall from the Basics of Organizing Tutorial,  the first step in the process is to remove everything from the space.    And the second is to sort everything into groups.  I like to combine these steps.  So as I remove an item I place it into a group.  Here is the part where I always tell my clients…it’s going to get worse before it gets better!   You will be making an organized mess, but it is absolutely necessary.  Find any available space to group the items, countertops, tables, or even the floor.

Once your cabinets and drawers are empty and you've got your items grouped out, it is the perfect time to give your drawers and cabinets a quick wipe down.

Back to your groups…get all your pots and pans together, all measuring cups and spoons together, spatulas, spoons, knives together, etc.  A group for everything.  So now we are ready for step 4, the purge.  Look at each group and each item.  It should be much easier to see what you have too many of, like spatulas.  I know which ones I like because I find myself reaching for the same ones over and over.  I bet you do too.  So what can you part with?  Look through all of your groups and really ask yourself if you like it, need it, or even have the room for it.  Seeing everything in their groups makes it so much easier to decide if you are going to keep it, throw it away, donate it, or rehome it.

The purging is done!  Time to put your Oba Kitchen Pack to work.  Let’s start with the drawers.  We have included many different sizes of drawer organizers.  I love these.  The grippy bottoms make them not slide around in your drawers.  Often times drawers are a hot commodity and many kitchens simply don’t have enough.  So decide on the things you use the absolute most and make sure they get a drawer.  If possible put your cooking utensils and hot pads close to the oven, put your dish towels near the sink and dishwasher.  Save yourself some precious time people!  Find the organizer that best fits your things and start filling your drawers, keeping things in their groups.  And if you’ve got a little room next to an organizer, don’t be afraid to use it!

As for the cabinets.  Most kitchens don’t need a lot of containers for under the cabinets since the things that go in them tend to be big and bulky.  All of your big and bulky items are in groups and these groups should stay together.  Put all of your pots and pans near each other, put your mixing bowls near each other, put your baking pans together.  Sometimes you do have smaller things that need to go in a cabinet which is why we have included our Classic Market Basket and different sizes of our Basically Everything Bins.  I like to use the Basically Everything Bins under the sink.  They are perfect since the things we put under there can sometimes be damp.  I am filling the large one with dish cleaning stuff and the small with scrubbers.  The Classic Market Baskets can be used for things like Tupperware lids, cookie cutters, or if you ran out of drawer space fill them with your kitchen towels.

Now that everything has a new home, it is time for the final step, labeling!  Since kitchens tend to need the least amount of labeling, we kept it short and sweet and completely customizable.  Our kitchen labels are chalkboard labels and come with a chalkboard marker.  Put a label on each bin in your cabinets and under your sink.  These labels are awesome, you can easily erase them with a damp paper towel and relabel them as many times as you want.

And that’s all there is to it.  We’ve said it before and we will say it again and again.  You can do this!  You can be organized.  And now that your kitchen is organized how about the fridge and freezer?  Or the pantry?  You know we’ve got the packs and tutorials just waiting for you.  And if you need one or two more of any item go on over to the a la carte section to complete your space.
